Program One - duration
1 hour and 30 minutes
Learn about a very simple Native Ceremony called a
smudging ceremony. Learn about the gift of sweat-grass,
sage, tobacco and cedar plants. (30 minutes)- Participate in a talking circle
just as the Native people still do even today. (30
minutes)
- As you erect a large tipi, you
will learn about the values of the poles and the teachings
of the tipi. (30 minutes)
Program 2 - duration
1 hour and 30 minutes
- Discover your personal Animal
Spirit as you go on a guided journey. Learn about
its special teachings and lesson and then paint it
on a stone.
Program 3 - duration
1 hour and 40 minutes
- During drumming you will learn
about the meaning and the importance of the Native
hand drum. Enjoy learning and playing Native chants
and songs on the hand drums that we provide for you.
(20 minutes)
- Learn the meaning of some of the
Native dances such as the Jingle Dress Dance and the
Fancy Dance. Participate in a Native dance called
the Round Dance. (40 minutes)
- Make a drum craft with hide, feathers
and beads ($8.00 per person charge) (40 minutes) -
Suitable for grade 4's and older only.
Program 4 - duration
1 hour and 30 minutes
- Do you love hearing about artefacts?
We have many artefacts to show you and to talk to
you about. (30 minutes)
- What were the reasons for the
demise of the bison? Learn about the bison and feel
its fur. What is pemmican, how is pemmican made and
how does it taste? Why was it so important to the
fur traders and the coureurs des bois. You'll see
how it was made and you'll try some too. (30 minutes)
- Aboriginal Games (30 minutes)
Our programs are delivered starting
at the grade three level. For Junior High and High School
level, please contact us for a special program.
You may combine any of the activities
described above to create own 90 minute program.
